I have been providing individual and family counseling for foster and adoptive families for the past 25 years and have helped many families get through the difficulties along the way. To adopt or foster a child can be challenging. Grandparents raising their grandchildren, couples wanting to expand their family by adopting through the child welfare system, and those already adopted—struggling with what was left behind and the emotions of having to assimilate to a new family.
In my practice, I have helped families such as “Missy”, a 55 year-old grandmother who didn’t have the energy or support to keep going; and “Ashley”, a 16 year-old adoptee who worried about her biological mom, resisted attempts to bond with her family, and didn’t feel anyone understood her; and there’s “David” and “Mary” who adopted through the child welfare system, and found it difficult to manage behaviors and felt they were not adequate as parents. I have used family therapy and my Theraplay background to help these families. I also have a specialty in working with teens as they process their feelings about adoption. Aside from adoption and foster families, I have helped many who struggle with anxiety stemming from school, relationship issues, self-defeat, ASD parenting and play therapy as well as depression in adults and teens.
Give me a call, tell me what you’ve been dealing with and we’ll see if we can move you or your child/family to a better place in life.
